Install CM10.1 Nightly On Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 International Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean

Samsung has lately confirmed the release of Jelly Bean for Samsung Galaxy S2 but date and availability is still unknown. We look forward to wait the official Jelly Bean for Samsung Galaxy S2 from Samsung. Meanwhile, if you are too thirsty to taste JB on Galaxy S2, we highly recommend you to install the CM10.1 Nightly build. Although it is still in nightly (experimental), it is great to taste Jelly Bean in early.

CyanongenMod 10.1 (CM10.1) is one of the best Jelly Bean custom ROM in market. It was built will pure Google JB Android 4.2 firmware, which mean TouchWiz will not be available for all the CM10.1. You will only taste the pure Jelly Bean firmware just as a Nexus 4 or Galaxy Nexus.

The tutorial and guide below is only compatible to Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 model. It will not compatible to other devices.

Check phone model – Goto Settings -> About Device -> Model Number

Requirements

  1. Windows-based PC
  2. Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100
  3. Download and install USB drivers on PC. Download Samsung USB Driver for Windows and Samsung Kies.
  4. Enable USB Debugging on your device. How to Enable USB Debugging Mode on Android Device.
  5. Backup your personal data on phone to PC to ensure you keep a copy of your personal data (SMS, MMS, Contacts, Internet Settings, Photos and etc). How to Backup Personal Data On Android Device.
  6. Make sure your phone is charged to 50% to avoid interruption during flashing.How to Check Battery Level On Android Device.

Download

  1. CM10.1 Nightly For Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 (cm-10.1-20130106-NIGHTLY-i9100.zip,150.49MB)
  2. Google Apps Package (gapps-jb-20121212-signed.zip, 90MB)

Instructions: (From Custom ROM)

  1. Make sure you have follow steps above and enable all the necessary features before start.
  2. Do a Nandroid backup in CWM/TWRP recovery in case you need for restoration. (Optional)
  3. Connect your device to the computer via micro USB cable.
  4. Copy and paste the downloaded cm-10.1-20130106-NIGHTLY-i9100.zip and gapps-jb-20121212-signed.zip to your phone internal SD card.
  5. Turn off your phone and disconnect from USB cable.
  6. Press and hold the Power + Volume Up + Home Button to enter CWM/TWRP Recovery.
  7. In Recovery menu, you are always recommended to perform a full Wipe Data/Factory Reset to avoid crashing and ROM compatibility issue. You may skip this step if you upgrade from your previous ROM version. For CWM recovery, use Volume key to navigate in Recovery Mode. For TWRP, use touchscreen to navigate in Recovery Mode
  8. Do Wipe Cache Partition – Select from the menu and select Yes to confirm.
  9. Go to advanced and do Wipe Dalvik Cache — Select from the menu and select Yes to confirm.
  10. From the main menu in Recovery, select the install zip from sdcard, then select choose zip from internal sdcard, browse to folder location and select the cm-10.1-20130106-NIGHTLY-i9100.zip and click Yes to install.
  11. Back to main menu in Recovery, select the install zip from sdcard, then select choose zip from internal sdcard, browse to folder location and select the gapps-jb-20121212-signed.zip file and click Yes to install.
  12. After the installation completes, go back to recovery’s main menu.
  13. Select reboot system now to reboot the phone.
  14. For first boot up, it normally takes longer time. Please wait patiently.

Instructions: (From Stock ROM)

  1. Root and install CWM/TWRP recovery. How to Root and Install ClockWorkMod Recovery on Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100
  2. Download root checker from Google Play to check your root status.
  3. Press Power + Volume Up + Home button to enter recovery mode. Check whether CWM/TWRP recovery is successfully installed.
  4. Connect your device to the computer via micro USB cable.
  5. Copy and paste the downloaded cm-10.1-20130106-NIGHTLY-i9100.zip and gapps-jb-20121212-signed.zip to your phone internal SD card.
  6. Turn off your phone and disconnect from USB cable.
  7. Press and hold the Power + Volume Up + Home Button to enter CWM/TWRP Recovery.
  8. In Recovery menu, you are always recommended to perform a full Wipe Data/Factory Reset to avoid crashing and ROM compatibility issue. Take Note:

In case the first boot up take longer than normal or stuck at Samsung logo, press and hold Power button for 5-8 second for the system to reboot. If the problem have not resolved, boot into recovery and wipe cache and reboot again.
