Compatibility

The tutorial and guide below is only compatible to Sony Xperia S model. It will not compatible to other devices.

Check phone model – Go to Settings -> About Device -> Model Number.

Requirements

  1. Windows-based PC
  2. Sony Xperia S
  3. Download and install USB drivers on PC. Download Sony USB Driver for Windows.
  4. Enable USB Debugging on your device. How to Enable USB Debugging Mode on Android Device.
  5. Backup your personal data on phone to PC to ensure you keep a copy of your personal data (SMS, MMS, Contacts, Internet Settings, Photos and etc). How to Backup Personal Data On Android Device.
  6. Make sure your phone is charged to 50% to avoid interruption during flashing. How to Check Battery Level On Android Device.

Instructions: (From Custom ROM)

Unlocked Bootloader Sony Xperia S

  1. Make sure you have follow steps above and enable all the necessary features before start.
  2. Do a Nandroid backup in CWM recovery in case you need for restoration. (Optional)
  3. Connect your device to the computer via micro USB cable.
  4. Copy and paste the downloaded ***ROM***.zip files to your phone internal SD card.
  5. Turn off your phone and disconnect from USB cable.
  6. Press press Volume Up button when the blue LED and the LED bar lights up on boot to enter CWM/TWRP Recovery.
  7. In Recovery menu, you are always recommended to perform a full Wipe Data/Factory Reset to avoid crashing and ROM compatibility issue. You may skip this step if you upgrade from your previous ROM version. For CWM recovery, use Volume key to navigate in Recovery Mode.
  8. Do Wipe Cache Partition – Select from the menu and select Yes to confirm.
  9. Go to advanced and do Wipe Dalvik Cache — Select from the menu and select Yes to confirm.
  10. From the main menu in Recovery, select the install zip from sdcard, then select choose zip from internal sdcard, browse to folder location and select the ***ROM***.zip and click Yes to install.
  11. Follow the same procedure to flash the superuser.zip file.
  12. After the installation completes, go back to recovery’s main menu.
  13. Select reboot system now to reboot the phone.
  14. For first boot up, it normally takes longer time. Please wait patiently.

Instructions: (From Stock ROM)

Locked bootloader Sony Xperia S

  1. You need to have root access on Xperia S, check out our rooting tutorial before start. [Alternative root tutorial]
  2. Be sure you have installed CWM Recovery, else follow tutorial here to install CWM.
  3. Download root checker from Google Play to check your root status.
  4. Copy and paste the downloaded ***ROM***.zip files to your phone internal SD card.
  5. Turn off your phone and disconnect from USB cable.
  6. Press press Volume Up button when the blue LED and the LED bar lights up on boot to enter CWM/TWRP Recovery.

Take Note

  • How to access to systemUI preferences: swipe down the notification bar, press menu button, choose systemUI preferences.
  • The best way to set an image for a contact is by starting from the Phonebook: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show…php?p=37937257
  • Set contact background image in last step while editing a contact.
  • Wipe user data in recovery to avoid force close and problem before to flash the rom.
  • You don’t have to wipe data if you’re coming from XZXperience 1 but wipe cache and dalvik cache in recovery.
  • To disable the navigation bar, go in settings, select navigation bar and “press to disable navigation bar” and reboot
